I would like to propose disabling the script-part that configures the "User Profile Synchronization Service" when installing SharePoint 2013.
"Active Directory Import" (which can easily be turned on manually via the GUI) is the cure to the ongoing troubles that a lot of us had with the User Synchronization.

It's not strictly a cure, but more accurately a workaround. It doesn't sync, just performs a simple import. I suggest reading a bit more about the intent of the AD Import.
